Philosophy

We believe that…

·          Uniforms can give children an important message about where they are going and what is happening to them

·          Uniforms can give children important messages about the season, belonging and progression

·          Uniforms should be affordable for all and as a result generic similar items are acceptable

·          The uniform policy should be flexible enough:

o    to have a comfortable version so all pupils can access it if they want to

o    in Secondary, to offer a more formal alternative to be more akin to the uniforms of peers and siblings in mainstream setting

o    for pupils to feel able not to wear it if they have sensory processing difficulties

o    for parents to use second hand uniform

o    for families to access the Marks and Spencer’s seamless range of clothing if required

Principles

We therefore intend to…

·          Have different school uniform in both Primary and Secondary – to illustrate progress

·          Demonstrate the maturity of the FE students by no longer requiring a uniform for FE

·          Accept non branded similar items of uniform and offer a second-hand uniform ‘shop’

·          Offer both formal and informal uniform options in Secondary

·          Accept pupils who are unable to tolerate uniform without any issues

·          Have some items that are suitable for warmer / colder weather (although these could be worn flexibly if required)

·          Ensuring parents are given clear uniform details once they have been offered a place

o    Primary / Secondary (both formal and informal secondary)

o    Suppliers / Second hand / Alternative providers

o    Summer and winter guidelines

o    Seamless

·          Accepting communications from parents about children’s difficulties with uniform
